Ongoing History Daily: AWOLNATION facts

Here are a few facts about AWOLNATION that may have escaped your attention until now.

(1) The main guy in the band is frontman Aaron Bruno, a former freestyle rapper. He got the nickname “Awol” because back in high school, he’d often leave parties early without telling anyone he was going home. He’s gone AWOL. Aaron is also the only member of the band who’s been there from the beginning.

(2) The band also once featured Christopher Thorn. He was a founding member of Blind Melon.

And (3) Awolnation was one of the first bands signed to Red Bull Records, the label created by the energy drink company. They approached Aaron with an offer of free use of their studio. Hey, what would you say?

Monday’s post dealt with what could have been the world’s first livestreaming event. And don’t forget to check out my podcast The Ongoing History of New Music where you listen on SpotifyApple PodcastsGoogleStitcher, or wherever you get your on-demand audio.
