Ongoing History Daily: Be careful who you invite onstage

Weird things happen when you’re on tour.  On some stops on the 1987 Glass Spiders tour, David Bowie had some female dancers planted in the audience and at one point in the show, he would “invite” one of them up onstage and dance with them.  t was a showbiz thing. But things went very wrong in Anaheim, California.

A woman was invited up onstage, but she wasn’t one of the “plants.” She was, in fact, some crazy woman on drugs. She danced for a while—but then she leaped at Bowie and bit him on the neck, tearing open a 4-inch gash.

The show went on, but later, the wound became infected, and Bowie had to get shots just to make sure he didn’t get some kind of weird infection from this strange woman.
