Ongoing History Daily: Billie Joe Armstrong facts

Things you may not have known about Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day.

  • He was playing the piano by age five.  In fact, he may have even started earlier than that, but details are sketchy.  The kid was something of a musical prodigy, apparently.
  • Before he was ten, he was singing for the residents of old age homes around the Bay Area.
  • At one point, Billie Joe sported a pretty cool set of dreadlocks.
  • Billie Joe and Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt have known each other since they were kids.  The first job they had together was working as bus boys at a restaurant called Rod’s Hickory Pit.  That’s where Billie Joe’s mom worked as a waitress.

Yesterday’s post was about concert tragedies.
