Ongoing History Daily: Black Pumas facts

Here are a few things that may have escaped your attention about Black Pumas until now.

(1) Singer and songwriter Eric Burton got his start by singing in church before moving to musical theatre and then to busking along the Santa Monica Pier in California. He also studied music at university.

(2) Guitarist Adrian Quesada was already a Grammy winner with a Latin funk band called Grupo Fantasma (and someone who had worked with Prince). when the two guys met through a mutual friend and started jamming together in Austin, Texas.

And (3) The name comes from Adrian’s fascination with jaguars—as in the wild cat—and as a play on the Black Panthers, the militant Black Power organization.
