Ongoing History Daily: Bono, France, and the terrorism alert
Bono has a house in the south of France in a down called Eze, which is just outside Nice. On the evening of July 14, 2016, he was having dinner in a seafront restaurant when all hell broke loose with a maniac with a truck mowed down more than a hundred people.
The owner of the restaurant hustled everyone inside, closed the shutters and told everyone to hide. Eventually, armed police descended onto the place, ordering people to march out with their hands on their heads. They were really concerned that there were terrorists loose on the streets and over rumours that a nearby hotel had been rigged with bombs.
Bono was among those people who were marched out to safety. This was the second time Bono had been in the vicinity of a French terrorist attack in less than a year. Remember that U2 was in Paris rehearsing for some shows when the Bataclan massacre went down.
