Ongoing History Daily: Bono’s big health scare(s)

Back in 2016, there was a story about Bono having some kind of health scare. This wasn’t related to the back problems that forced postponement of the 360 Tour back in 2010. And this didn’t involve that bad bicycle crash in New York in 2014. This was something completely different. \

Doctors found a bubble on Bono’s aorta. Had that bubble burst, he would have bled out internally within minutes if not seconds. This condition—called an abdominal aortic aneurysm—often goes undiagnosed. Take the case of Andy Fletcher of Depeche Mode. His aorta ruptured on May 26, 2022, and he was dead within minutes. Bono was lucky that the bubble was found and in 2016 underwent heart surgery in New York.

He says that was a wake-up call and he’s been trying to live a simpler life ever since.
