Ongoing History Daily: Dads who helped out

Fathers who have helped out their sons with their music careers.

Sean and Paul Ryder’s dad used to work as the road manager for The Happy Mondays.  The father of Tre Cool of Green Day used to be the official driver of the Green Day van.  He drove them around the first three times the band toured the States.

But the champion father has to be John Weller, Paul Weller’s dad.  He has been working as Paul’s manager since before the days of the Jam.  He went on every tour Paul has ever done without a break until 1995 when he missed his first.  He had to stay at home to recover from heart bypass surgery while Paul went to Japan for the 17th time.

The last post dealt with The Ramones being banned in Norway for something that wasn’t their fault. And don’t forget to check out my podcast The Ongoing History of New Music where you listen on SpotifyApple PodcastsGoogleStitcher, or wherever you get your on-demand audio.
