Ongoing History Daily: Florence + The Machine Facts

Here are some things you may not know about Florence of Florence and the Machine

  • First, in case you didn’t already know, is Florence Welch.
  • “The Machine” refers to keyboardist (and composer and producer and remixer) Isabella Summers, a woman she’s known and collaborated with since they were both teenagers. In fact, their first gigs were promoted under the name “Florence Robot/Isa Machine.”
  • Florence’s favourite instrument is the drums, which can explain the heavy rhythms found in some of her songs.
  • And finally, Florence has been diagnosed with dyslexia (wherein letters on a page sometimes seem to be all mixed up) and dysmetria (which results in a lack of coordination because she has a hard time judging, say, how far her hand is away from something).
