Ongoing History Daily: Florence Welch’s near-death experience

Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine has several health challenges. She’s dyslexic. She has a condition called dyspraxia, which affects movement and coordination. She’s battled an eating disorder, along with anxiety, and addiction to various things, including alcohol. Then, in August 2023, she had a near-death experience as a result of an ectopic pregnancy.

The condition caused internal bleeding, followed by a miscarriage. Not long after that, she was scheduled to play a show in Cornwall and was determined to go through with it, even though she was in pain and still bleeding. She made it through the gig, but ended up in the hospital, where it was discovered, she was bleeding internally.

Emergency surgery was required to repair the damage. Had she not been convinced to go to the hospital, she might not have made it through the night.
