Ongoing History Daily: Gord Downie’s concert suits

When the Tragically Hip went out on tour in 2016, Gord Downie had seven different suits specially made by a tailor named Izzy Camerelli. Each suit was named after someone who helped him prepare for the Man Machine Poem roadtrip.

The gold one was named Paul after Hip guitarist Paul Langlois. The silver suit was called Patrick after Gord’s brother. Gord’s father, who died in 2015, is the reason the turquoise outfit was called Edgar. Jenn, Gord’s assistant, got the green one and pink was for Izzy herself. The purple suit was called Prince for obvious reasons. And finally, the glittery mirror ball outfit was called Bowie.
