Ongoing History Daily: Liam and Noel are mama’s boys

Liam and Noel Gallagher are often portrayed as a couple of hard-drinkin’, drug-takin’, brawlin’ kind of thugs. That may be, but they really love their mother. In 1997, they told their mother they were going to buy her a beautiful new house worth close to $300,000. They thought it would be so much nicer than the three-bedroom semi-detached house in Manchester that she had been renting for $80 a month for the last thirteen years.

But Peggy Gallagher refused.

She said, “Thanks, lads–but what would I want a mansion for? I’m happy with a simple roof over my head. And besides, this is my home.” Well, the boys listened to their mom. They dropped plans to buy the mansion and instead shelled out $48,000 for the house where she lived. The boys also paid for some renovations, including a couple of ensuite bathrooms.

Friday’s Ongoing History Daily recalled when Krist Novoselic knocked himself out on live TV.
