Ongoing History Daily: Metal-loving termites

Termites can be terrible pests, causing tremendous damage to buildings. Getting rid of them can be very difficult, too. If you’ve got an infestation, it could be because you’re playing too much metal in the house.

Some studies have shown that termites burn through wood at twice the pace if they’re regularly exposed to heavy music. How? Entomologists think that it may have something to do with the vibrations created by the music. They somehow stimulate the termites to eat more and faster. And it’s not just metal that does it. Some studies also point to certain types of heavy classic rock can do exactly the same thing.

If you’ve got a termite problem, you might want to cut back on the Slipknot and Metallica. Just in case.
