Ongoing History Daily: Metal vs. classical music

Psychological research from the department of psychology at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland: music fans are more alike than they might want to believe.

The goal of the study was to try and figure out why music is just an important part of a person’s identity.  What is it about music that helps us identify who we are?

Without getting too deep into the specifics, they found certain commonalities between different types of music fans.  For example, metal fans and classical music fans tended to share the same profile.  Both groups have high self-esteem, are quite creative, quite at ease with themselves but not very outgoing.  Sound familiar?
