Ongoing History Daily: Metric, international band

Most people view Metric is a Canadian band. And that’s true. The group is based in Canada. But that’s only part of the story.

Singer Emily Haines was born in New Delhi, India, and moved to Canada when she was still really young. James Shaw was born in London, England, and came with his parents to Bellevue, Ontario. Bass and synth player Josh Winstead is originally from El Paso, Texas. And drummer Joules Scott-Key is from Flint, Michigan.

There’s more. While Emily and James first met at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, they later moved to New York, Brooklyn, the UK, and Los Angeles. So while they were formed in Toronto and work out of Canada, they’re far more international than most people realize.

Friday’s Ongoing History Daily post featured a book that’s required reading for any grunge fan.
