Ongoing History of New Music

Ongoing History Daily: MGMT facts

Here are a few things that you may have missed about MGMT.

  1. Their original name was The Management, but when they found out that someone else had dibs on that, they just shortened it to MGMT.
  2. Frontman Andrew VanWyngarden is a surfer. His big dream is to surf near the Arctic Circle in Siberia. Hey, everyone needs a dream, right?
  3. Back in the early days, the band deliberately tried to provoke audiences. They once performed a gig where they played nothing but the Ghostbusters theme for a solid hour.
  4. And speaking of weird concert moves, they once cut open a durian, the world’s smelliest fruit, and passed it around the audience. A few people left because of the smell, but the rest of the audience thought it was weird enough to be cool, so they stayed.

Rolling things back to yesterday, the post about about Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.
