Ongoing History Daily: More from the technology graveyard

Anyone who’s been into music and movies for a long time probably has a basement littered with obsolete technology.  Every hear of DiscoVision?

This format (also known as the LaserDisc) was developed in the 1970s and actually pre-dates the compact disc.  DiscoVision discs were twelve inches in diameter and had much better sound and picture than the video tapes at the time (which, then again, were pretty awful).

Unfortunately, though, few of the movie studios got on board and the electronic giants which introduced them lost interest my the middle 80s.  Companies like Sony and Pioneer instead started working on a new thing called the DVD.

Another promising technology, bumped off because something new–and, okay, better–came along.
