Ongoing History Daily: Onstage bust-ups, part 2

Here are a few more examples of onstage bust-ups in the flavor of what we saw with Jane’s Addiction earlier this year.

In 1980, Don Felder Frey and Don Henley got into such an onstage row that Felder screamed at Henley “Only three more songs till I kick your ass.” Things got weird backstage, and a guitar was smashed. The Eagles wouldn’t perform live again until 1994—and without Felder.

Here’s where we finally get to Oasis. The band was in LA in 1994 on their first American tour when Liam hit Noel over the head with a tambourine during a gig. Noel quit the band for a few days, disappearing to San Francisco, forcing nine dates to be canceled.

The Jesus and Mary Chain’s William and Jim Reid were also brawling brothers. During a 1998 show in LA, a show ended after just 15 minutes when they started fighting because Jim was too drunk to sing.

One more. A gig by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, always a volatile bunch, ended in chaos when singer Anton Newcombe cracked guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt in the head with one of his guitars. The resulting brawl required security to come onstage.
