Ongoing History Daily: Perry Frees the Slaves

Perry Farrell is best known as a member of the bands Jane’s Addiction, Porno for Pyros, and Satellite Party. He’s also known as one of the founders of Lollapalooza. But what’s this about him freeing slaves?

In 2000, Perry became involved with an organization called the American Anti-Slavery Group. They’re devoted to finding out ways to free people in slavery in countries like Sudan and Thailand. Yes, slavery still exists in this world. Perry helped raise money, flew to Sudan, and then actually help purchase the freedom of people who had been living under horrible conditions. Then he organized something called “freedom parties” for the freed people.

Not quite on the scale of Abraham Lincoln, but certainly a very, very proud accomplishment.

Yesterday’s post was about The U2 Tower in Dublin that was never built.
