Ongoing History Daily: The day Dave Grohl sent David Bowie an invoice

When David Bowie went into the studio to record what would become his 2002 album, Heathen, he assembled some crack musicians who all jumped at the chance. I mean, who wouldn’t want to work with Bowie? One of those people was Dave Grohl.

He appears on the song, “I’ve Been Waiting for You,” which is a cover of a Neil Young song. In this case, Dave didn’t play drums but instead contributed acoustic guitar remotely from California. He was never in the same studio as Bowie.

When it was all done, Dave sent Bowie an invoice for $10,000, which came as something of a surprise. I’m sure there was some sort of payment, but we don’t know what the final arrangement was.
