Ongoing History Daily: The Ramones inspired by…Led Zeppelin?
One of the most influential groups in the history of new rock was the Ramones. By extension, the late Johnny Ramone was one of the most influential guitar players. Was it because he was so technically adept? No–precisely the opposite.
Johnny’s appeal was the fact that he kept it so simple, which left a lot of kids with the impression “Hey! That looks cool and fun. And look! It’s not that hard!”
One of Johnny’s trademark poses was to sling his guitar way down low. He actually had the pose down before he could properly form some chords.
Where did he get that idea from? One of the most basic guitar stars we’ve ever seen modeled this part of his guitar style from one of the most accomplished guitar gods: Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.
