Ongoing History Daily: Two more examples of Stupid History
I’m a big fan of what I call “stupid history,” the weird and silly events that should be taught in school to show how odd life on this planet can be. Here’s the kind of history I’m talking about.
On December 14, 1999, Boy George was performing with Culture Club at the Bournemouth International Centre in Dorset, England. During rehearsals for the show, a giant disco ball suspended above the stage suffered some kind of malfunction. The cable holding it place snapped and it came crashing to the ground. It brushed past Boy George before shattering into a million pieces. Had he been a foot more to one side, he would have been crushed.
But then there’s this case of former ELO cellist Mike Edwards. He was minding his own business driving down a country road when a giant hay bale weighing more than 600 kilos came rolling down a hill and across the road just as Mike was driving by. He was killed instantly.
