Ongoing History Daily: U2 and the biggest pizza delivery order EVER!
During one stop on U2’s massively multimedia Zoo TV tour, Bono took a cell phone in the middle of the set and decided to call the White House so he could talk to the president. He got to the switchboard–but that’s as far as he got.
On another stop on the tour in Detroit–this would be March 27, 1991–he phoned out for pizza. In front of a huge crowd, he ordered 10,000 pizzas from a place called Speedy Pizza and asked that they be delivered to the stadium. The weird thing was that the joke was on Bono.
Speedy ended up delivering about 200 pizzas that night–and they also presented Bono with a bill for $1700, plus tip.
