Ongoing History Daily: Weird album alert
I have a fondness for weird albums—and this one fits the bill perfectly. EasyJet, the British discount no-frills airline, had a weird marketing product back in 2017: An album filled with nothing but airline engine noise ambience.
More specifically, the album was the drone of CFM56 high-bypass turbofan engines used worldwide in single-aisle airliners like the Airbus 320 series. It was recorded at 39,000 feet during an EasyJet flight from Gatwick to Nice.
Okay, but what’s the point? The drone of aircraft engines can lull people to sleep. All proceeds from the sale of this digital-only album went to Children’s Sleep Charity, which aids both children and adults with sleep issues.
