Ongoing History Daily: Weird record alert

There are many things that inspire to make music: love, anger, wonder, nature, religion. But how about the sounds of surgery? I found a very weird CD called A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure by a group from San Francisco called Matmos.

The two guys in the group, Martin Schmidt and Drew Daniel, received permission to take some recording gear to a local hospital where they were able to record the sounds of various types of surgeries. They then sampled these sounds and incorporated them into a series of electronica compositions. Tracks on the album include “California Rhinoplasty,” “LASIK” and “Lipstudio.”

And yes, A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure is available on iTunes. You can also listen on YouTube.
