AI-generated music is one of the big stories of the year, and there’s no end to the controversy surrounding it. But let’s look ahead at something else.

Every day, more AI-generated music is going online. We’re about MILLIONS of new tracks every 24 hours. At the same time, AI music programs continue to scrape the internet for music that can be incorporated into their large language modules.

Here’s the question: What happens when AI music starts learning from the AI music that’s already out there? Will this inbreeding dumb down music? Will errors and mistakes be compounded? We’re already seeing issues with programs that generate images and videos. AI is learning from imperfect AI creations, resulting in some awfully inaccurate and wrong results. Will this eventually happen to music? Maybe.

It gives new meaning to the term “pop will eat itself.”
