Ongoing History Daily: What’s the name of Pearl Jam’s singer?

What is the name of the singer for Pearl Jam?  That is a tougher question than it might sound.

While he was growing up, his name was Edward Mueller.  “Mueller” was his father’s last name, so everything was normal.  But years later, he found out that his father was actually his stepfather.  His real father’s name was Severson, and when he was born, Eddie’s full name was Edward Louis Severson, Jr.

As you might guess, Eddie got a little freaked out.  When the rest of the family moved to Chicago, Eddie stayed behind in San Diego and from that point on, he began to use his mother’s maiden name, which is “Vedder.”

Some of this story is told in the lyrics of “Alive.”
