Ongoing History of New Music

Ongoing History Daily: Why do so many people say that vinyl sounds better than digital?

There’s a persistent argument that vinyl sounds better than digital music. Is this true? First, an undeniable fact: Digital music has more bandwidth and is more accurate than capturing audio on vinyl. So digital sounds better than vinyl.

However, you may agree with this statement: Listening to music on vinyl feels better than music from a digital source. Why is that?

Vinyl is an analogue format, meaning that sound is captured in continuous waves, just like actual sound coming through the air. Digital music, no matter how you slice it, breaks things down into tiny samples of data. The brain can tell the difference, interpreting vinyl as sounding warmer and more natural.

Finally, this is going to be another big, BIG Christmas for turntable sales. A check on internet searches shows that plenty of people are researching purchases.
