Ongoing History Daily: Would you pay $20K for a toe?

Al Jourgensen, the leader of Ministry, one of the fiercest metal and industrial bands of all time, is an interesting character. He’s abused his body and mind over the years and has been declared dead (and resurrected) three times. That included the time a stomach ulcer exploded leading to cardiac arrest.

Then there was the time Al stepped on a syringe probably left over from someone—probably Al—shooting up. He ignored the injury, allowing the infection to get so bad that the toe was amputated. Before that happened,

Dave Navarro, guitarist with Jane’s Addiction said “Hey, Al. Can I have your toe? You’re not using it anymore and I collect weird stuff. I’ll give you $20,000 for it.”

Al was game but unfortunately, doctors refused to give him the toe once it was lopped off. Dave went home disappointed.
