The big rock-star-gone-bad story this weekend involves Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong being kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight because a flight attendant objected to his low-slung pants. No, I didn’t go away for the long weekend because frankly, I couldn’t be bothered. I just couldn’t deal with the hassle of making arrangements, the traffic and having to interact with people grasping desperately at their last bit of summer.
Besides, Canada’s largest ribfest is just down the highway this weekend and I couldn’t possibly miss that. I’m all out of Camp 31 BBQ sauce and I need to stock up for the winter and the spring of summer of 2012. That’s what’s important to me.
And keeping you up to date on music news, of course. I mean, at some point you’re going to open a beer and break out the laptop, right?

Yesterday, after months of speculation, Calgary’s Shaw Media announced that they would not be getting into the cell phone game.
After acquiring much expensive spectrum, it was expected that they’d beef up their delivery systems by rolling out a mobile phone unit in order to compete with vertically integrated communications-content-delivery companies like Rogers and Bell. But they say, “Um, no. We’re not going to do that. Too expensive.”
Why? I have a theory.
