Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter album is out today. I had a chance to talk to bassist Jeff Ament about it.

Back in the old CD days, radio stations used to run album release specials all the time. I did dozens of them. With streaming, though, that approach has largely fallen out of favour because it cost a lot of money to set up interviews and fly people in to a common hotel somewhere (LA, New York, Nashville, London, wherever). This whole process made it difficult to keep the new album from leaking.

But now, thanks to Zoom and watermarked digital delivery, it’s a piece of cake. The artist doesn’t even have to leave their house and I neither do I. Last week, I had a chance to speak with Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament from his home in Seattle while I was comfortably in my home studio. Piece of cake.

The result is a Dark Matter album release special that will run on the following stations today (April 19).

CFOX – Vancouver (6pm local)
Power 97 – Winnipeg (6pm)
Y108 – Hamilton (7pm)
FM96 – London (7pm)
Dave Rocks – Kitchener (7pm)
The Wolf – Peterborough (7pm)
Big- Kingston (7pm)
102.1 The Edge – Toronto (7pm)

It’s been more than four years since Gigaton, so this really is a special event.
