Please tell me you’re not dumb enough to buy tickets to this festival

Remember the disastrous Fyre Festival? Hundreds of people were suckered into spending big dollars to attend a show in the Bahamas that–to put it mildly–did not deliver on any of its promises. It was such a sh*tshow that there were two documentaries on it. Promoter Billy McFarlane went to jail on fraud charges for the whole thing.

Well, guess what? McFarlane is out of jail and promoting another Fyre Festival.

  • Location: In the Caribbean. Somewhere. We’re not sure.
  • Date: Undetermined. Sometime before the end of 2024.
  • Lineup: Unknown. We’re supposed to trust me.
  • Tickets: On sale now starting at US$499 and going up to US$7,999. More at the website.
  • Partners: No idea. There’s something about Middle East investors.
  • A preview: Ah! I can help with that. Here’s a trailer.

If you can’t be arsed to watch the trailer–and I don’t blame you–here’s what McFarlane has to say:

“It has been the absolute wildest journey to get here, and it really all started during the seven-month stint in solitary confinement. I wrote out this 50-page plan of how it would take this overall interest and demand in Fyre, and how it would take my ability to bring people from around the world together and make the impossible happen, how I would find the best partners in the world to allow me to be me while executing Fyre’s vision to the highest level… In the meantime, we’ll be doing pop-ups and events across the world. Guys, this is your chance to get in. This is everything I’ve been working towards. Let’s fucking go.”

No. Let’s NOT go.
