Popular Hamilton drummer Gene Champagne is on a ventilator with COVID

A couple of weeks ago, 52-year-old Gene Champagne, drummer with bands like Teenage Head and the Killjoys, started feeling unwell: chills, body aches, a bad cough. He initially tested negative for COVID, but as the symptoms got worse, it became apparent that the diagnosis was wrong. Another test returned positive.

This came as a surprise. Both Gene and his wife Julie had been very careful in public and Gene had no underlying conditions that would make him more susceptible to COVID. He did, though, have to leave the house for work at a job that involves transportation and logistics.

His condition worsened and pneumonia set it. Gene has been sedated and on a ventilator at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington since last Thursday.

Teenage Head posted this.

Thoughts out to Gene.
