Priceless Joy Division Master Tapes Found…Where?

Chef Jamie Olver is in the process of converting an old Midland bank on King Street in Manchester into a new restaurant.  As it was being gutted, the contents of hundreds of old and forgotten safety deposit boxes had to be moved from the basemetn.

The building is a heritage site and because the safety deposit boxes were built into the actual structure, they couldn’t be removed intact.  Contacting the owners to come collect their belongings proved to be rather difficult, considering that some of the boxes dated back to 1935.

So what sorts of things were being held inside?  The usual:  jewellery, money, a gun–and a haul of master tapes from both Joy Division and New Order.

Could this possible mean some interesting reissues?
