Quel Surpris: KISS Wins Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Fan Voting

In a sop to the general public, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame offers fans a chance to vote on which of this year’s nominees they think should be inducted. The members of the Hall still get the final say, but they’d be stupid not to take into account the fan vote.

There were exactly 1,398,504 votes cast and they broke down like this:

•KISS – 17.2%
•Nirvana – 15.69%
•Deep Purple – 11.93%
•Yes – 10.88%
•Daryl Hall and John Oates – 8.10%
•Peter Gabriel – 7.97%
•Linda Ronstadt – 6.13%
•Cat Stevens – 5.37%
•Zombies – 3.94%
•N.W.A. – 2.95%
•Replacements – 2.26%
•LL Cool J – 1.92%
•Paul Butterfield Blues Band – 1.76%
•Chic – 1.32%
•Link Wray – 1.32%
•Meters – 1.24%

Note how poorly rap and R&B did, which creates something of a conundrum for the Hall.  Let’s keep this in mind when the five inductees are announced early next year.
