Quick Update on the Bullshit Government Fee Required of Touring Musicians

It’s called the Labour Market Opinion (get the background here) and is the subject of much lobbying by the music industry. This fee needs to be killed, and quickly.

The good news is organizations like the Candian Independent Music Association have attracted the Federal Government’s attention on the matter and indications are that we’re moving towards some sort of resolution.

If you’re affected by this fee as an artist, manager, promoter for venue owner, here are a few things you need to know.

–The LMO fee applies just once and NOT for every show a foreign artist may play in Canada.  That’s good.

–It’s still unclear whether a foriegn artist may have to pay the fee multiple times if they enter Canada multiple times on the same tour.

Stay tuned.
