Radio: Still thriving in Canada. Here are the latest listener statistics.

I’m so tired of all those people who say radio is dead. Wasn’t video supposed to kill the radio star? Oh, wait. The video star is dead and radio is still here. Isn’t that so, MTV?

Numeris, the official radio ratings company in Canada, has just put out a new report on listening in this country. Here are some statistics:

  • AM and FM radio reaches 81% of Canadians each week.
  • French Montreal has the most reach (87%) followed by radio in Edmonton (82%) and Calgary (81%).
  • In-home listening is up across the board throughout the day by an average of 4%.
  • 53% of listeners in Toronto listen to radio in the home. That’s second only to Montreal.
  • Canadians listen to about 8 hours of AM/FM radio per week, which is up 4% from a year ago.
  • 13% of Canadians stream radio online. That’s steady over the last three years.
  • Most people stream radio in the morning, peaking at 7:30 am weekdays and 9 am weekends.
