Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, Billie Eilish, get nominated for Academy Awards
The nominations for the 2022 Academy Awards were announced this morning (February 8, full list here) and both Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and Billie Eilish (along with brother Finneas) are up for Oscars.
Jonny got the nod for composing the soundtrack to the acclaimed Jane Campion film, The Power of the Dog. This is Jonny’s second Academy Award nomination. He was in the running back in 2018 for Phantom Tread but ultimately did not win.
Meanwhile, Billie Eilish’s James Bond theme, “No Time to Die” is up for Best Original Song. She and Finneas will be up against Beyonce for her song, “Be Alive” from King Richard. Van Morrison is also in the mix for “Down to Joy” from Belfast.
One more: Questlove, drummer for The Roots, got a nomination for his directorial debut, the very powerful documentary Summer of Soul.
The Oscars would normally be held right about now, but they’ve been pushed back to March 27 because of the Olympics.
