Random music news for Friday, August 29, 2025

Labour Day Weekend already? And everyone has to get back to normal on September 2? I hate when the calendar works out this way. Ignore that for the moment as I present music news for August 29, 2025.

  1. I’ve been reading about how many Americans just don’t get the Oasis hype. Then again, beyond “Wonderwall,” the US never got Oasis at all. Here’s more on that. In Canada, we understand it completely, as demonstrated earlier this month.
  2. Paul Gallagher, older brother of Liam and Noel, appeared in court this week.
  3. I never thought of this before: AI might create new genres of music.
  4. Gen Z doesn’t like streaming. They go for TikTok and YouTube instead.
  5. What can musicians do when politicians they don’t like use their music? Read this.
  6. The next Apple event (with the announcement of iPhone 17) will be September 9.
  7. Cradle of Filth has lost two members in about a week. What’s going on?
  8. Do you listen to podcasts or watch them? What is everyone else doing? This.
  9. A 30-year-old extra-sad Radiohead song is getting new life thanks to TikTok. Why? Because there’s a challenge to “make the saddest edit ever.”
  10. AI company Anthropic has settled a major copyright case with authors.
  11. What they’re doing with The Wizard of Oz at The Sphere in Las Vegas is pretty incredible. (Via Sean)
  12. Here’s a good video: Tony Iommi: The Godfather of Metal. (Sean again)
  13. What’s wrong with people? Jeezus, TikTok and Amazon…
  14. I’m avoiding all things Tay-Tay and Travis, but if you must, go here, here, and here for…something.
  15. Katy Perry vs. an 85-year-old dementia patient. The fight is over a mansion.
