Random music news for Friday, July 19, 2024

With some of the weird weather this summer, it might be time to go to Costco and get their “apocalypse dinner kit.” Let’s distract ourselves from the end of the world with some music news for July 19, 2024.

  1. I’ve said this from the beginning: The DOJ antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation/Tickemaster won’t do a damn thing to the price of concert tickets.
  2. Will the Rolling Stones continue to tour? I say they’ll go until they can’t anymore. Mick looks damn good on this tour.
  3. There’s a new global music organization called ORCA. It will conduct research into the cultural, social, and economic impact of music.
  4. TikTok already has a ticketing deal with Ticketmaster. It’s now partnered with Eventbrite.
  5. Does AI really pose a threat to the music industry? Read this and decide.
  6. Vin Diesel sings on a new dance track. Wait–what?
  7. Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” seems to be on its way to becoming a global anti-Canada anthem. Great. Just…great.
  8. Sum 41 may want to reconsider retiring.
  9. Coldplay is planning a ten-night residency at Wembley Stadium to “reduce their carbon footprint.” Yeah, and meanwhile, fans will have to travel to see them. See the contradiction?
  10. On the same topic, K-pop fans created a sustainability program for that genre.
  11. Instagram Reels can now include up to 20 music tracks.
  12. It looks like Madonna’s biopic is back on.
  13. Minecraft headphones? Yep. From Beats and Apple.
  14. New Jane’s Addiction. Yep. Coming next week.
  15. An EDM show at The Sphere in Las Vegas? Yep. That will be really trippy.

BONUS: Given events in the news lately, The Boys (the best series on TV right now!) had to post this.
