Random music news for Thursday, January 2, 2025

With the way the calendar fell this holiday season, the only way I’ve been able to keep track of what day it is has been by posting music news. Here’s what I have for Thursday (I think), January 2, 2025. If it’s not Thursday, I apologize.

  1. This year looks to be rather chaotic. Here’s how to approach it. Ask yourself “What would Bowie do?”
  2. “It’s punk rock to be Republican.” That’s what this guy thinks. Please destroy his argument.
  3. RIP Eric Carlson, better known as Sickie Wifebeater, a founding member of The Mentors. He was 66. Cancer.
  4. Alabama Baker, daughter of Blink-182’s Travis Barker, is 19. She’s just been hospitalized for nicotine withdrawal after she stopped vaping. How much vaping was she doing?
  5. If you’re into how the concert industry works, check out this interview with Norman Perry of Perryscope Productions.
  6. I’m big into high-fidelity audio, but I’d never heard of the best digital format until now. Check out DSD Audio. Want. Bad,
  7. “Will video kill the audio star in 2025?” My take? No. Not a chance.
  8. ‘Jay-Z seems to be very worried about being wrapped up in a charge involving a 13-year-old. Here’s what he’s doing.
  9. What’s the etiquette when it comes to performing your own songs at karaoke?
  10. Interesting: The most-played songs on American rock radio in 2024.
  11. “The Neil Peart Experiment.” Ballsy and impressive.

  • The only DSD I ever managed to own was The Downward Spiral, and since my PS3 died I don’t think I even have a way to play it currently. (Also I think the PS3 could technically read it but had to convert to PCM before outputting.)

I used to have a low budget Sony surround-in-a-box set which amusingly supported the discs fully.
