Random Music News for July 28, 2014

I’m visiting my parents this week and sleeping in my old basement bedroom.  It’s weird.  But n0t as weird as when my mom insisted on watching Family Guy with me last night.  I had to explain a lot of the jokes, which was exceedingly awkward.

  1. Someone finally came up with a Morrissey drinking game.
  2. Blur’s Damon Albarn says he’s writing a family-friendly musical.
  3. Metallica is reissuing eleven albums on vinyl.
  4. What are the most-covered songs of all time?  Here’s a good start.
  5. Do you rip vinyl to digital? Here’s a software program that may be of interest.
  6. Here’s a list of interesting albums you can’t buy anymore.
  7. Beware: this YouTube star you’ve never heard of (until you’re a girl under 14) could be the next Bieber.
  8. Four career lessons from Weird Al.  This is good. (Thanks to Bobby.)
  9. Punk women (including Courtney Love and Kim Gordon) are supporting an online school for girls.
  10. A book is coming out on Prince’s Purple Rain.
  11. Bob Lefsetz reminisces about the Ramones.
  12. This isn’t music-related, but you should know that a British inventor has built a giant fart machine and aimed it at France.
