Random Music News for Tuesday, October 25, 2016

Just two more weeks and this clownish US election will be over. If Hillary wins–and that’s what the polls seem to say–what will Trump’s disgruntled supporters do next? It makes me shudder. Now, some music news.

  1. Why did Spotify, SoundCloud, Twitter and other sites get shut down by a DDoS attack last Friday? Because of a Chinese webcam.
  2. Another rough week in America for physical album sales. Kings of Leon’s WALLS debuted at #1 with 68,000 copies sold (that doesn’t include that weird thing called “track equivalent albums,” which pushes the “consumption number” up to 77.000). Add up all the physical sales in the US Top 200 and you only have 775,000 units.
  3. Turntable 101: Here’s how the things work.
  4. If you’re at all interested/curious about how the radio business works in Canada, you should subscribe to Matt Cundill’s podcast.
  5. Okay, so Vinyl didn’t work out, but Mick Jagger has another project in the works.
  6. Another article on RadioPlayer, which will be coming to Canada very soon.
  7. And here’s one more on RadioPlayer.
  8. Sinead O’Connor is in rehab battling a marijuana addiction.
  9. There are some surprises on the first-round ballot for Grammy Award nominations.
  10. Here’s some analysis of AT&T’s purchase of Time-Warner.
  11. Another empty threat from Kanye West.
  12. Here’s how hardline David Bowie’s estate is being with his music.
  13. The “cult of silence.” I could get behind this.
  14. Suge Knight is suing Dr. Dre because he says Dre hired a hitman to kill him.
  15. Oh, Bieber… (Via Tom)
  16. Taylor Swift grossed HOW MUCH of her F1 gig?
