Rdio Introduces a Family Plan

As I’ve written in this space before, I’ve become a convert to streaming music services.  If you want access to millions of songs without having to pay millions of dollars, a $10/month investment seems like a pretty reasonable thing.

My current supplier of choice is Rdio.  I’m a regular subscriber who has the same service as anyone else–and I’m rather hooked on it.  And their move today to introduce a family plan should make Rdio more attractive.

With a regular Rdio plan, you can use the service on multiple devices but only one device at a time.  This means that while you’re listening to your Rdio music on your phone, little Susie can’t access the music on the family computer.  And vice versa.

With the family plan ($17.99 for two accounts, $22.99 for three, $9.99 for each additional account), a central dashboard controls everything.  Everyone can access their own slice of Rdio simultaneously.  As a bonus for parents, there are ways to prevent little Susie from listening to Gorgoroth and NWA.

Details in the Rdio blog.

Meanwhile, Rdio will have another interesting announcement regarding Canadian music tomorrow morning.  Details then.
