The Return of the Roland 808

Even if you know nothing about the electronics and gear that go into making modern music, you have heard the sounds of the Roland TR-808 drum machine.  This thing has been used on uncountable tracks, from synth-pop and dance and beyond.  It’s not an exaggeration to say that the 808 changed the course of music.

The unit went out of production some time ago, but there are hints that Roland is planning to bring it back.  Watch.
