Review with Photos: Sound of Music Festival Kick-Off Concert
Burlington Ontario’s Sound of Music Festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2019. In that time it has grown to become Canada’s largest free music-related event, attracting thousands upon thousands to one of the Greater Toronto Area’s most scenic waterfronts over Father’s Day weekend.
A couple of years ago, the festival had the bright idea to start the fun earlier with a one-day ticketed show, which has featured headliners Weezer, The Cult, The Offspring, and an All-American Rejects/Everclear double-header. This year saw Bush and Live bring ’90s rock nostalgia to Spencer Smith Park as one of the first stops on their summerlong “ALT-IMATE” itinerary.
I unfortunately missed The Castor Troys and Black Mountain Whiskey Rebellion, as well as psychedelically sweet two-piece band Crown Lands. I HEARD the latter from my car on a very congested Lakeshore Road, and was able to get a picture with them along with the news that new music is on the way sooner rather than later. Until then, rock out to Rise Over Run!
The 2019 Sound of Music Festival picks up again from Thursday, June 13th to Sunday the 16th (topped off by Cowboy Junkies, with everyone from Hollerado to Bedouin Soundclash in between). SoundOfMusic.ca has everything you need to plan for a great weekend of music!
