Riot in Montreal After Alt-Rock Concert. 18 Arrested.

I admit to not knowing much about the band Les Trois Accords, but they and their fans put on quite a show in Blainville, Quebec (a rather quiet suburb about 40 km north of Montreal), early Sunday morning.

The band had just wrapped up an outdoor gig just after midnight when 200 people refused to leave the venue.  Rocks and bottles starting flying at police and a squad car was set alight.

Local police were forced to call the QPP for backup. Eighteen people–all between the ages of 14 and 22–were arrested and face charges of mischieft, rioting and arson.

Cops say that part of the problem was that the crowds kept getting bigger once news of the violence reached Facebook and Twitter.  One estimate is that up to 1,000 people were involved at one point.

A spokesman also said that alcohol may have been involved.  Really?

Too bad that Les Trois Accords get that kind of attention for the wrong reasons…!!! They're a great rock band from Drumondville, QC. If you listen to them, you might see some "Weezer" into their music but they also have classic rock and country influences too. Their lyrics are hilarious. I know that they sing only in french but, who cares! For most of us growing up in Quebec, we usually couldn't understand a word of english before 6 or 7th grade!!! For some of you, I think you guys should a listen to their music. And they are great live!!! They're the ones behind the "Poutine" fest that they started in their hometown, with several bands playing every year!

Why am I saying all this? Because I was there last Saturday!!! And to be honest with you, that riot had nothing to do with the band, the show, or for the majority of the crowd!!! It was mostly families there, including me and a couple of friends with their newborn. I think the show ended around 10pm and there was fireworks right after for about 15, 20 minutes. Afterward, everyone left their separate ways except for teenagers that, I guess, wanted to keep partying. Rumours say that around midnight, police officials asked the kids to leave the park and that's when a bunch of lunatics started shouting at the police officers and decided to "be on the news" the next day.

I thought I could clarify some facts because at no point the band had anything to do with this. I guess we will leave this to Axl Rose!!!

    Merci!
