RIP Clinton’s: Toronto loses another music venue

Clinton’s, the three-story music venue at 693 Bloor Street West, had been hosting events since 1937, longer than even the Horseshoe and the El Mocambo. Then last Wednesday (February 19) it abruptly closed.

This message appeared on the club’s Facebook page.

Clinton’s glory yeas were in the 80s and 90s when it hosted gigs by everyone from the Cowboy Junkies and the Barenaked Ladies to Three Days Grace. Later, Drake would try out material there.

This a blow to the Choir! Choir! Choir! people who had used Clinton’s as their HQ for the last five years. They will be behind a fundraiser at Lee’s Palace tomorrow (February 25) “for all the staff members who are not only owed a lot of money they may never see, but are also for now, out of work.” They’re asking for a $10 minimum donation.

Might there be an angel investor out there? Who knows?

  • Too bad about Clinton’s. But there will always be the Lenny line, ‘there’s music on Clinton St. all through the night.’
