RIP Jennifer Finch of L7, dead of brain cancer
It was just earlier this month that L7 announced that their farewell tour would not feature bass player Jennifer Finch because she needed treatment for an aggressive type of brain cancer. A GoFundMe campaign was announced. And there was hope. Doctors believed that radiation and chemo would help. After all, she was tough. She beat thyroid cancer in 2011. And when the current tour was being planned, she was in good health.
But the cancer was very aggressive. Multiple surgeries were required. Complications set it. And today (July 19) we heard that she had died at the age of 59.
“With a very heavy heart we announce that our beloved bandmate, friend, and fellow troublemaker Jennifer Finch has passed away today,” says the band. “She had a long courageous fight with brain cancer and was loved by many wonderful friends, musical peers and fans worldwide. We love you Jennifer.”
A spokesperson for the group released this:
We are shattered by the loss of our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch, whose fierce spirit, humor and boundless creativity helped shape L7 and changed all of our lives forever. Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms, and the impact she made on music, art and everyone lucky enough to know her cannot be measured. We love her beyond words and will carry her with us always. Rest in power our dear friend.”
Jennifer had asked the band to continue The Last Hurrah tour without her.
In addition to being in L7, she was in two other bands, OtherStarPeople and the Shocker. She ran a label called Little Pusher Records and was a highly regarded photographer.
