Rumours About the Fate of the El Mocambo

We know that he Elmo, Canada’s most famous dive rock’n’roll bar, has a new owner. It’s madman rock’n’roll  Bay Street financier Michael Wekerle, also known as (a) a member of the CBC show Dragon’s Den; (b) the guy who saw his ultra-rare Porsche 918 go up in flames at a gas station; and (c) an alleged difficult hotel guest.

Ever since the purchase was announced in November, people have wondered what he plans to do with the place. Here are some strong rumours:

1. The people who run the bar at another local hangout, The Hideout, will run the new bar at the Elmo.

2. Folks from the high-end Harbour 60 Steakhouse (a favourite of high rollers who go to Leaf games) will manage the kitchen.

3. The Wahlberg Brothers–yes, them–will open their second Toronto location on the top floor patio.

I can’t confirm any of the above, but like I say, the rumours are very song.
