Rush at The Sphere in Las Vegas? Maybe.

Ever since The Sphere in Las Vegas opened with a residency by U2, people have speculated about what acts would be appropriate for the venue. Dead and Co., Phish, The Eagles, No Doubt, Metallica, and Backstreet Boys have all had successful runs. Pink will soon become the first woman to headline the venue very soon.

Not just any act can play The Sphere. It’s an expensive and extensive undertaking, unlike any other gig they play. Not only does your music have to be big enough to fill that huge space, but you need the visuals to go along with the performance.

Other groups are in talks. Depeche Mode is one. Tool is another. And so is Rush.

Rush? That’s interesting. According to The Sun in the UK:

“The Sphere has become the premium entertainment spot in Vegas. All the acts who have performed there have been at capacity for every show because audiences love the audio-visual experience. The plan now is to map out a moving roster of acts who can come in and out for the next five years.”

Rumours are that Rush has been talking about playing The Sphere “for a while.” Another quote:

“Rush has an enormous audience across North America. Even though they are Canadian, their music and success have been huge in the US. Their hits, history and live performances make them an attractive proposition. Talks have been secretly going on for a while, but the word is that contracts could be locked down in the next couple of weeks.”
